Introducing Free Veteran Peer Support Groups in Virginia

*This program is NOT affiliated with the Villages of Kiln Creek Owners Association.

Are you a military service member or veteran in Virginia looking for connection and support? We have great news for you! The Virginia Veteran and Family Support (VVFS) program is now offering veteran peer groups on the Cabana platform. Even better, these groups are provided free of charge to eligible participants, thanks to a partnership between the Virginia Department of Veterans Services and Cabana.

What Are Veteran Peer Support Groups?

Peer support groups bring together individuals with shared experiences—in this case, veterans—to connect and help each other navigate the challenges and triumphs of life after military service. Led by trained facilitators, these groups offer a confidential, welcoming environment for sharing stories, learning coping strategies, and forming meaningful connections with fellow service members.

The Cabana Platform

Cabana is an online platform designed to help groups meet virtually. This means you can join the conversation from the comfort of your home—or wherever you may be—without needing to travel. With Cabana, participants can easily:

Access scheduled meetings

Connect face-to-face via video

Share resources and links in real time

Who Can Join?

These groups are FREE for:

Current military service members

Veterans residing in Virginia

Whether you’re new to the idea of peer support or have participated in similar programs before, you’ll find a welcoming community eager to listen, learn, and grow together.

How to Get Started

If you’re interested in joining a peer support group or simply want to learn more about how it all works, get in touch with a VVFS facilitator. They’ll help you:

1. Understand how the peer groups are structured.

2. Sign up for the sessions that best fit your schedule.

3. Navigate any technical setup needed for Cabana.

Why Consider a Peer Support Group?

Shared Understanding: Connect with others who truly “get it,” because they’ve walked a similar path.

Confidential & Supportive: Discuss concerns and personal challenges in a safe, judgement-free setting.

Practical Tools & Tips: Learn strategies for stress management, relationship building, and transitioning to civilian life.

Boost Well-Being: Studies show that having a strong social support network can significantly enhance mental health and overall resilience.

Spread the Word

Even if you’re not a veteran yourself, consider sharing this information with friends, family members, or co-workers who might benefit. These free peer support groups can make a world of difference for someone seeking camaraderie and understanding.
